The general practitioner
The general practitioner welcomes children and adults for all types of general medical care (consultation, annual check-up, vaccination, health check-up).
He diagnoses and treats all kinds of pathologies, from the most common and benign to the most serious. He usually follows his patients over a long period of time, as an attending physician. He also liaises with medical specialists for follow-up outside his office.
It is up to the patients to choose their attending physician, with their agreement. Unlike the referring doctor, this doctor can be a generalist but also a specialist, especially for patients suffering from long-term conditions or chronic illness.
